Boy Scout Troop #46

Since 1987, the church has sponsored Troop 46, a member of the Pioneer Trials District, heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Community Garden

The church has set aside part of our property for vegetable garden plots.   A plot may be rented for a nominal sum to cover water usage and tilling.

The Giving Grove

The church has set aside part of our property for an edible fruit and nut tree orchard. In partnership with The Giving Grove, a program of Kansas City Community Garden, church members and friends have planted two of three phases of the orchard. Church members serve as garden “stewards.”  When the trees are mature, the harvest will be shared with neighboring food pantries.

Hot Soup Belton

Once a month, a group of volunteers cooks breakfast and delivers the meal to this organization.

Kansas City Hospice House

Kansas City Hospice House, located at 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO, specializes in short-term, inpatient care for seriously ill people who are unable to stay at home. Since the inpatient unit is open 7 days a week, including holidays, serving at Hospice House is often a good option for working adults since service opportunities are available in the evenings and on weekends. Service opportunities in which church members participate include:

  • Once a month, cook and serve a meal for family members staying at the facility
  • Deliver meals to patients
  • Provide administrative assistance

Military Outreach

Nourish KC

Nourish KC, formerly Episcopal Community Services, engages the Episcopal and broader community both in feeding the hungry and in empowering the poor to move beyond the barriers of poverty with dignity through education and job training.  The church partners with Nourish KC by participating in the BackSnack program and in South Kansas City Hunger Summits.

One By One Ministries is dedicated to providing pastoral care, hope, and restoration to the homeless in the Kansas City area. The church donates funds to support this ministry and will assist in renovating transitional housing.

Red Bridge Food & Necessities Pantry

Located at First Baptist Church, the Pantry is a satellite location of the Community Assistance Council. The church supports the Pantry by donating needed non-perishable items on Pantry Sunday (the first Sunday of every month). The church also donates turkeys at Thanksgiving and hams at Christmas to the Pantry for distribution to families. We participate in the annual Souper Bowl of Caring and the annual neighborhood canvas for non-perishable items to benefit the Pantry. Service opportunities in which members participate include:
